According to the Kabbalah (the hidden secrets of the Torah) every month of the year corresponds to a tribe of Israel and a Hebrew letter as well as many other categories of twelve that appear throughout the Torah. This particular painting (which is one of a series called "The Twelve Dimensions of Israel") relates to the month of Sivan (June), the tribe of Zevulun and the letter zayin.
During the month of Sivan the Torah was given which is a guide of Divine wisdom for moving through life. The tribe of Zevulun was blessed with "going out and coming in" to engage in commerce on the sea which is part of his territorial inheritance. The letter zayin which appears on this seascape is itself a poetic impression of many spiritual secrets. The tempo-spatial dimension of Sivan - Zevulun - Zayin was formed through the energy of the Zayin. This metaphysical process is illustrated in this painting.
